Common questions
What is the Polite/Friendly switch? Turkish has a polite register built on siz and its verb endings for officials, elders and strangers, and a friendly one built on sen for friends and people your own age. Flip the switch in Cay and every phrase changes its wording, its sounds-like line and its audio to match. Border and police phrases stay polite automatically. Set your default in Settings, or change it on any phrase.
Do I need to know the Turkish alphabet? No. Turkish uses the Latin alphabet you already read, and only six letters differ from English. Every phrase carries a plain sounds-like line under it, and the built-in Turkish in 60 seconds guide covers the six letters, vowel harmony and the sen/siz split in a couple of minutes.
What is free? Cay is free to download and every phrase is browsable. The whole Greetings & Basics category is free forever, audio included. Cay Pro unlocks every other category’s audio, the word-by-word breakdowns, the Show the Driver card and Practice.
How do I unlock everything? Cay Pro is available Weekly or Yearly, each with a 7-day free trial, or as a one-time Lifetime purchase. Start the free trial from the paywall.
How do I restore a purchase? Settings, then Restore Purchases.
Does it work offline? Yes. All phrases and all audio are bundled in the App, so everything works with no signal and no account. Perfect for the plane and for arrival.
What is Show the Driver? Any phrase turns into a giant, full-screen Turkish card you can show a taxi driver, a pharmacist or a hotel desk when saying it out loud feels like too much. Tap it to flip back to the English and pronunciation.
